Ubisoft hasn’t had the strongest run in recent years—not necessarily because of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which looks promising, but due to the company’s overall decline in fresh IPs and seasonal output compared to previous generations. However, if the latest rumor proves true, a new title could be on the horizon.
According to Tom Henderson, Ubisoft is currently developing a turn-based tactical strategy game set within the Rainbow Six universe. The project is reportedly one to two years away from release and is being developed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a possible version for Switch not ruled out.
Gameplay will reportedly feature an isometric camera, similar to that of XCOM or Diablo IV, and the experience is said to be very much in line with XCOM’s mechanics. Players will control Rainbow Six operators, each with unique abilities, and the game will include cinematic sequences integrated into the missions.
The expected playtime is estimated at 25 to 30 hours, although that may vary depending on player skill and gameplay choices—a common trait in the genre.
In my opinion, this kind of game could fit surprisingly well in the Rainbow Six universe.
