Nintendo is likely to unveil its Switch 2 in the coming weeks—possibly even days—if they want to avoid a massive leak of their next console. The Kyoto-based company has only confirmed that its new hardware will be announced within the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025.

According to rumors, externally, the console will closely resemble the OLED model but feature a larger screen and magnetic Joy-Cons. Internally, two leaked images of the motherboard have surfaced:

The shape of the board might seem odd at first glance, but keep in mind that it must accommodate the cooling system and battery. Based on these leaks, the system is expected to feature a custom Nvidia Tegra T239 chip built on a 5nm process. The motherboard shows two USB ports (top and bottom) and two RAM slots, potentially housing 6GB modules, suggesting a total of 12GB of RAM (compared to 4GB in the original Switch). The memory chips are identified as SK Hynix H58GEA6AK8B LPDDR5X modules, boasting speeds of 7500 MT/s.

On July 13, 2023, Nintendo filed a patent for an upscaling technology for the Switch 2, which only became public today. This tool, similar to Nvidia’s DLSS, would allow games to display a higher resolution than their native rendering by using AI-powered upscaling. The technology could enable upscaling to 4K resolution.

The benefits are significant: games with 4K textures that typically require 60GB of storage could be reduced to just 20GB by using native 1080p textures. This would make it possible to sell games on 32GB microSD cards. Additionally, it would result in smaller download sizes and less storage space required on the console itself.

Thanks, Eurogamer.
