[Rumor] Is the StarCraft Shooter Real? Leaks, Details, and Blizzard’s Mystery ARG

Some rumors are particularly exciting because they involve the return of some very special franchises and IPs. And when that IP is StarCraft, we’re all paying very close attention to what it might be.

And, from the looks of it, after years of rumors and past proposals to bring StarCraft back, it seems that the signs and rumors now suggest StarCraft will return in the form of a narrative third-person shooter. And that could be amazing.

What we know about the new StarCraft shooter

According to the latest rumors, the new third-person StarCraft shooter is said to have Dan Hay as project lead. Hay was the veteran executive producer responsible for the best days of the Far Cry series at Ubisoft.

But the rumours don’t end there.

Jason Schreier (in his book Play Nice) and Windows Central’s Jez Corden (who claims to have seen footage of the game) suggest that the game won’t be a Destiny clone – as has been suggested almost repeatedly in recent times – but rather a game centred on a narrative single-player campaign.

Furthermore, the aesthetic would be neither cartoon-like, nor Overwatch-style, nor anything similar: the StarCraft shooter would opt for a very powerful and photorealistic visual style.

In fact, the game’s approach and aesthetic reminded Corden of Space Marines 2, the latest game in the Warhammer series.

To add further mystery and a sense of ‘immediacy’ to the recent reports, Blizzard’s official website has started displaying ‘curious’ technical glitches and cryptic ASCII transmissions.

And what about those messages? Well, they date from the year 2575, which would suggest that this new StarCraft game is set almost 70 years after StarCraft II, in a mining facility where something terrifying lurks in the shadows.

RTS games have become less prevalent over time, so this new approach to StarCraft as a more mainstream product makes sense to put the series back in the spotlight.

As always, take these rumors with a grain of salt. But with BlizzCon 2026 just around the corner on September 12–13, the answers about this highly anticipated StarCraft shooter could arrive sooner than we think.
