Diddy Kong Racing 2 is in development. At least, that’s what Kevin Callahan (a 3D artist who has worked in the video game industry) states.
Allegedly, Nintendo would have contracted Monster Games, the developers behind Excite Truck or Pilotwings Resort, to work on a sequel to the original N64 title. Lately, Monster Games have ported Donkey Kong Country Returns to Nintendo 3DS and assisted Retro Studios with the development of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, so they are already familiar with the franchise.
The source claims that this new Diddy Kong Racing project has been halted and resumed several times during the past 8 years. It seems that originally the game was set for a release on Wii, but the poor sales of Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast and 2007′s port of the original Diddy Kong Racing send it, again, to the limbo. Apparently, thanks to the good numbers that Mario Kart Wii and Donkey Kong Returns made, Nintendo decided to resume the Diddy Kong Racing 2 project once again.
Of course, this is a rumor, so don’t forget to take it with loads of salt.
