Microsoft announced an enormous layoff to reduce their work force, this movement affected Xbox Studios as well and 343 Industries, developers of Halo, has suffered a big decrease in their personal.
According to Jason S. 95 people has been fired at 343i. This massive change in the structure of the studio forced them to basically start from the scratch with the franchise. Moreover, 343i is focusing on the multiplayer and they are switching to Unreal Engine for “Tatanka” the codename for the new Halo.
One of the biggest issues of 343i was to rely on the development of Infinite in a heavily way in contractors:
One of 343's biggest core problems over the last few years has been a heavy reliance on contractors, who can only stay a maximum of 18 months. During this mass layoff, full-time employees got severance packages. Contractors got a few days to pack up and leave
