Microsoft’s strategy for the next Xbox appears to revolve around delivering a high-performance system capable of running a full version of Windows 11 without limitations. This would mean access to the Xbox ecosystem as well as everything a Windows PC can offer.
Windows Central details several aspects of the next Xbox generation:
- The machine runs a full version of Windows 11 with a console-style UI.
- The console will run all Xbox games, as well as Windows 11 titles from stores such as Steam.
- A 2027 launch is possible, but not internally confirmed. It depends heavily on the performance and readiness of Windows 11 and other factors (it could also be affected by the rising cost of key components).
- Microsoft is working with OEM partners such as ASUS to offer multiple hardware options at different price points (similar to the Xbox Ally models). The strategy is compared to the Surface model: a premium system supported by a broader hardware ecosystem.
- Despite rumors, Microsoft is still working on releasing an Xbox handheld.
Thanks, Windows Central.
