The news is a bit of a bombshell and, more importantly, unexpected for many:

Sony is reportedly in talks to buy Kadokawa, the parent company of From Software (Dark Souls, Elden Ring, or Bloodborne).

Yes, that’s right, according to an exclusive report from Reuters, this move would give Sony control of developer From Software (it currently owns 14% of the company, which will become 2% within the Kadokawa conglomerate), and thus control over one of today’s most desired developers.

But if we talk about what lies beyond, this purchase is even more significant.

Kadokawa is a very powerful media conglomerate. Very, very big. It encompasses everything from magazines and press to video games and anime. Let’s not forget that Sony, for example, is very interested in the latter (remember: it also recently acquired Crunchyroll).

According to Reuters, Sony wants to sign the deal in the coming weeks.

Both Kadokawa and Sony declined to comment on the matter.
