Microsoft has experimented with an Xbox One without optical drive before. In fact, they studied the market to launch a disc-less Xbox One in 2013. This time could be the definitive one.
Brad Sams from Thurrott, informed that Microsoft were experimenting with a model of Xbox One without the optical drive, the machine was codenamed “Maverick”. Windows Central has more information about this Xbox.
Xbox Maverick would be called commercially “Xbox One S All-Digital Edition”. A machine to go totally digital. Pre-orders would start in April and the console would be out in early May. Simultaneous launch for almost all Xbox markets. No info about price was given, but this All-Digital Edition should be the cheapest Xbox One available.
The machine would take advantage of Xbox Game Pass and the incoming service streaming, Project xCloud.
Thanks, Windows Central.
