I started playing Valorant because of a friend a few years back, and it was so tough I almost quit. I don’t specialize in first-person shooting PC games because I mostly play mobile games, such as CODM and PUBG. And now that I can say that I’ve grown quite good in the game, but that’s mostly because I have my friend with me, who had the patience to teach me while being bad at the game. However, there are certain things you only learn through experience, and that’s what I’m here to share with you today.
If you think about it, when you watch a Valorant streamer, it seems so easy, like you’re watching a TV show on streaming services. However, it’s completely different when you’re the one playing. Since you’re here, you’re likely a newbie who’s trying to figure the game out. Here’s what you need to keep in mind.
1. Never shoot while moving.
If there’s one thing that you need to make a habit when playing Valorant, it is to not shoot while moving. If you’re used to playing other shooting games, this might come across as something odd or new to you because we’re so used to shooting while moving.
But in this game, moving reduces your accuracy significantly, so it would be extremely hard for you to shoot your opponents. I still have the tendency to do this, especially when I’m panicking, but I’ve worked hard to control it so that it doesn’t affect most of my games.
2. Mute and ignore toxic players.
If you’ve been gaming for a while, you know that every game has its own toxic players. Since you’re just starting out, you might get trash-talked a lot (depending on your skill level, of course). A lot of players will badmouth you, so it would be great if you could play with a friend who knows the game already, or just mute all voice chat in settings.
Communication is very important in this game, so you might need to learn the game by yourself. But if you’re playing with a friend, you can modify the settings so that you only hear the people in your party.
3. Use the training mode as much as you need.
There’s no shame in using the training mode, but it would be best if you train through unrated games like Swiftplay and Deathmatch to actually get a hold of how the game works or how your agent’s skills work in the real game.
Have you ever watched an action movie on streaming services where the fighter trains repeatedly on dummies? That’s basically what the training mode is. So whenever you think you need help getting used to shooting, using skills, or any part of the game, don’t be shy to use this mode.
4. Be mindful of your mouse’s DPI and your game’s sensitivity.
Your mouse’s DPI and your in-game sensitivity settings can completely change how you aim and move. If your sensitivity is too high, your crosshair might fly all over the place. Too low, and you’ll struggle to turn or react quickly. Find a balance that feels natural to you. Many pro players use lower DPI and sensitivity for better control, but it really depends on your comfort. Once you find that sweet spot, stick to it so that your muscle memory builds over time.
The Bottom Line
It’s not easy to be good at Valorant, especially if you don’t play regularly. But if you put in the time and effort and follow these tips, you should be able to improve your gameplay and eliminate more players. Just always do your best and enjoy the game. That’s the most important thing.
