Next gen could be more than a dream and some companies could be working and testing the first PS5 dev kits. Semmiacccurate has published an article with some details of the future of PlayStation:

  • Base architecture could be based on AMD Navi, not specifically using Navi.
  • CPU custom Zen by AMD.
  • Release date: author suggests 2018. The forecast is based on the large amount of dev kits sent to developers. Launch could be getting close.
  • VR things baked in at the silicon level.
  • There is not specific info about power or backwards compatibility.
