Grand Theft Auto became one of the most important IPs in the PS2 era thanks to GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas. Rockstar could be working on a rehabilitated version of these classics on current systems.
Kotaku has the scoop. In bullet points:
- Rockstar is developing a series of remasters for GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas.
- Unreal Engine is the engine chosen for the work and it will be a mix between old and new graphics.
- Apparently, it looks like a heavy-modded version of a classic GTA game.
- UI is being revamped retaining the old touch.
- Nothing about the gameplay, but Rockstar want to be true to the PS2 essence.
- Rockstar Dundee, the former Ruffian, is the study in charge of this work.
- Platforms: PS5, PS4, Series, One, PC, Stadia, Switch and mobile devices.
- Possible release: October-November. PC and mobile ports could be moved to 2022.
- The megaton: if sales are in line with Rockstar expectations, they can greenlight a Red Dead Redemption 1 remaster.
Thanks, Kotaku.
