We live in an age of remakes, remasters and countless project reboots.
But there are games… and then there are games. And when it comes to Baldur’s Gate, we’re all holding our breath.
And the fact is, this would be a dream remake for many.
According to PC Gamer, a remake of Baldur’s Gate 2 is currently in development.
And not just any remake that strays from its roots, but one that would feature Kevin Martens, who was co-lead designer on the original game at BioWare. Whilst at the company, Martens also worked on Neverwinter Nights and Mass Effect before finally moving to Blizzard in 2029 to become co-lead designer on Diablo 3.
But the rumour doesn’t end there… PC Gamer’s report, citing its source, suggests that both Baldur’s Gate 1 and Baldur’s Gate 2 could be in the process of being remade. However, this information appears to be somewhat less concrete.
Nevertheless, given the recent success of Baldur’s Gate 3, it would make perfect sense to bring the two original titles back into the spotlight and put the IP back in the spotlight. Something similar to what CD Projekt Red is doing with The Witcher, the remake of the first game and the expansion for The Witcher 1.
As always, take these rumours with a grain of salt… but stay tuned!
