The next generation of consoles is getting closer, and it feels like the current one hasn’t fully delivered — especially in terms of technical advancement. Beyond that personal impression, recent rumors point to 2027 as the likely launch window.
According to a Windows Central report (or rather, rumor), Microsoft aims to offer a premium experience with its next Xbox, which would follow a concept similar to the ROG Ally, allowing users to run next-gen Xbox games while also accessing titles from Windows, Epic Games Store, Steam, Battle.net, and GOG. Essentially, it would function as a hybrid between a PC and a console, with dedicated Xbox hardware and software to preserve the traditional Xbox experience — even giving users the option to ignore the Windows interface entirely.
Players could access their Steam and Xbox libraries, use a keyboard and mouse, and install regular programs. The system would reportedly support the entire Xbox catalog, from previous generations to the new one, with native performance. Games from the Series line would also benefit from AI technologies like Automatic Super Resolution to enhance visuals and performance.
And perhaps the most striking detail: online multiplayer might no longer require a paid subscription. This new Xbox would aim to combine the openness of a PC with the comfort and ecosystem of a console.
We will see.
Thanks, Windows Central.
