Ubisoft has been trying for the past few years to relaunch one of its most famous and prolific franchises: Splinter Cell. However, those attempts were focused on mobile and VR video games, so we still don’t know how a Splinter Cell for consoles would fare today.
Now, after almost 10 years without a Splinter Cell game for consoles (Splinter Cell: Blacklist, 2013), Tom Henderson (Video Game Chronicle), states that several sources tell him that Ubisoft has given the green light for this.
Apparently, the game is in the early stages of production, and we don’t know which studio is developing it at this stage. Some sources suggest that it would not be the famous Ubisoft Montreal. Be that as it may, it seems that this new Splinter Cell video game could be announced in 2022.
Last year, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated that the Splinter Cell series needed to evolve before it could make a comeback.
When you create a game, you have to make sure you will come with something that will be different enough from what you did before
The last time we did a Splinter Cell, we had lots of pressure from all the fans actually saying, ‘Don’t change it, don’t do this, don’t do that,’ so some of the teams were more anxious to work on the brand.
Now there are some things and some people that are now looking at the brand, taking care of the brand,” Guillemot added, “so at one point you will see something, but I can’t say more than that.
Since we don’t have an official announcement either, let’s wait and see what Ubisoft decides about the game and what platforms and audiences it will be aimed at.
In the meantime, stay tuned to VGLeaks.
