I remember back in the PS2 days when Killzone was described as Sony’s “Halo Killer.” A franchise with its good moments, but far from the greatness of Master Chief, or at least from the most iconic games starring Microsoft’s mascot. Some of you may even still remember the trailer for the second game shown at E3.

The franchise could be coming back if we believe the information published by MP1st, which claims that a new Killzone is currently in development and still in its very early stages.

People close to the project suggest that Guerrilla could be collaborating with an external studio on a remake or remaster of a Killzone game. The most reasonable possibility would be a remake of the first game, originally released in 2004. Other MP1st sources suggest that the project could instead be a complete reboot of the franchise. And when could this game be released? It would take some time, as part of the staff has reportedly been reassigned to the reboot of Horizon Hunter’s Gathering. Until that project is properly back on track, development on this new Killzone would not return to normal.

MP1st understands that this title would be released before Horizon 3.
