A recent rumor suggests that AMD will once again be the chip manufacturer for the PlayStation 6, a decision that reportedly came after Sony considered partnering with Intel. According to sources from Reuters, Intel lost out on this deal back in 2022, a contract worth an estimated $30 billion, which could have helped alleviate the financial struggles Intel has faced recently.

Sony evaluated Intel as a potential partner for designing and producing chips for the PS6. However, Sony ultimately chose AMD due to several factors, including the importance of backward compatibility with previous PlayStation systems. Creating a custom chip with Intel would have required significant additional resources to ensure this feature. The partnership between Sony and AMD will continue, covering both the PS5 Pro and the upcoming PS6. Notably, Microsoft also relies on AMD for its Xbox consoles, while Nintendo uses chips from Nvidia.

All chips for these gaming systems are manufactured by TSMC, the real winner in this competitive market.

Thanks, Reuters.
