That’s right, we’ve been seeing the codename HLX popping up here and there in Valve’s code for quite a few months now.
But, what is HLX? It’s not really clear to us. There are several theories.
It could be a version of Half-Life Alyx, a project for a new game in the Half-Life series, or even Half-Life 3. But we’re not sure about this, except that ‘HLX’ has been appearing in Valve’s title code for quite a few months now.
This last time, for example, HLX appeared in the latest Counter-Strike update, so it’s also rumoured that HLX may have been a Half Life project that didn’t go ahead and was cancelled. So, Valve could be reusing their material, and HLX could refer to the fact that, in the latest CS update, they have added material (assets, etc) from that cancelled project so that they don’t have to do work from scratch.
Be that as it may, the truth is that something seems to be moving inside Valve, so we’ll keep an eye out for a pleasant surprise.
HLX mentioned as a separate game in the latest Counter-Strike update. This project is rumored to be Half-Life 3. Previously these strings were mentioned in Deadlock. pic.twitter.com/MFTi41t4Zd
