This industry is able to produce profits, but sometimes we have to report upon the other side of this business: layoffs. Sony Santa Monica has had to layoff 50 people.
Part of those employees were working on a new IP, this new intellectual property was (apparently) a Sci-Fi game, really unique and was going to be announced at E3 2014. We are not going to see this new game, because of it has been cancelled.
A Neo-GAF user, Shinobi602, has provided us with some details about this unannounced and canned project from Santa Monica:
Sad to hear Santa Monica’s new IP is canned. It sounded pretty darn good from what I was told. RIP, we hardly knew ye.
New IP was really unique, sci-fi…legitimately saddened at the news. Sorry to everyone involved, damn.
What’s worse is that it was set to be unveiled at E3. Something massive must have happened. 🙁
Moreover, Michael Angeli, known for his work on Battlestar Galactica, was supposedly involved in this new IP.
It’s a pity, there are not a lot of games that take advantage of that genre. On the other hand, I really hope that all those people that have lost his job will be able to find another one ASAP.
Thanks, DualShockers.
