Today Sony Interactive CEO, John Kodera, admitted that “PlayStation 4’s nearing the end of its lifecycle“. It’s been 5 years since PS4 was launched and, obviously, PS5 is being designed for a long time.
Today we have more evidence about PS5 CPU. According to info coming from Linux-specialist site Phoronix, Sony is already working with AMD’s Ryzen (first generation) technology. The company has principal programmers improving the Zen core’s micro-architecture support within the LLVM compiler stack, which is a key component of a tool used in the PlayStation 4 development environment. One of these programmers has been making lots of commits to the LLVM github over the last few weeks.
The possibility to combine Ryzen x86 CPU architecture and Radeon graphics into a single chip makes this choice totally logical in many areas.
Stay tuned.
