It may seem surprising, and it could be a sign of a possible shift in Sony’s AAA policy, but, according to a Bloomberg report by Jason Schreier, it appears that a remake of The Last of Us for PS5 is currently in development.

Allegedly, this TLOU remake for PlayStation 5, codenamed T1X, was originally being developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Visual Arts Service Group since 2018. The main focus for this remake was to update the original game and made it very similar to the experience The Last of Us Part II offers. By the way, this remake could be packaged with a PlayStation 5 version of the sequel.

However, due to The Last of Us Part II delay, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Visual Arts Service Group began to help Naughty Dog with the development of the sequel. When TLOU Part II was finished, Sony sent Naughty Dog staff to help the Visual Arts Service Group team with T1X.

Finally, The Last of Us remake was moved under Naughty Dog’s budget, with Visual Arts Service Group being its support team. Ironic.

Remember, the original The Last of Us game (PlayStation 3, 2013), already had a remaster for PS4 in 2014.

Stay tuned.
