Wii U First Devkits (CAT-DEV V1-V2) – Classic Controller Adapter

In our first article we mentioned that Wii U’s first development kits didn’t support the new gamepad (DRC). The only controller supported was the Wii Classic Controller.

This diagram shows the main hardware components in the Cafe Development Environment when V1-V2 development kits were released:

The controller uses a special adapter (named Classic Controller Adapter) and a special port to interact as you can see in the picture below:
